ABRASION RESISTANT
According to ASTM D3389-10 (for coated or unsupported gloves) and ASTM D3884-09
(for uncoated glove fabrics), abrasion resistance is measured by counting the number
of revolutions (abrasion cycles) until the glove material fails. A 4-inch circular sample,
typically taken from the palm, is mounted on a horizontal platform and subjected to
abrasion under a specified vertical load of 500 or 1000 grams. The abrasion is applied
using two rotating H-18 wheels made of vitrified clay and silicon carbide particles. The
final results, expressed in revolutions, are rated on a scale from 0 to 6, with higher
numbers indicating greater abrasion resistance.

CUT RESISTANT
This standard, following the ASTM F2992-15 testing method, evaluates cut resistance
using a Tomodynamometer (TDM-100) machine. The test measures the amount of force,
in grams, required for a blade to cut through the glove material. Weights are gradually
increased until cut-through occurs, with the blade replaced after each attempt. Several
tests are performed, and the average value is calculated to determine the final gram rating,
which ranges from 200 to 6000 grams. Results are classified into levels A1 through A9,
with higher levels indicating greater cut resistance.

HEAT RESISTANT
This standard evaluates a glove’s resistance to heat and flame using three methods:
ASTM F1358-08 for ignition resistance and burning behavior, ISO 17493:2000 for
heat degradation resistance, and ASTM F1060-08 for conductive heat resistance.
Based on these tests, gloves are classified according to their performance under the
specified conditions.

PUNCTURE RESISTANT
According to the EN 388 testing method, puncture resistance is measured by determining
the maximum force required for a blunt probe to penetrate the glove material. The probe,
similar in size and shape to a ballpoint pen, presses into the fabric at a 90° angle at a
speed of 100 mm/min. Weights are gradually applied until penetration occurs. Multiple
trials are performed, and the average value is used to establish the final rating, expressed
in newtons (ranging from 10 to 150). Results are classified into levels 1 to 5, with higher
levels indicating stronger puncture resistance.

IMPACT RESISTANT
The ANSI/ISEA 138-2019 standard evaluates impact protection by testing multiple points
on the fingers and knuckles. Test results are classified into three performance levels. This
American standard builds upon and advances the existing European impact testing
standard, EN 388:2016.

COLD RESISTANT
The standard specifies the requirements and test methods used by glove manufacturers
to measure A) resistance to convective cold, B) resistance to contact cold, and C) resistance.
